Rowyn's 2nd Birthday!

I love to make things special. Whether it be gifts, parties, events, my classroom -I enjoy going the extra mile and putting effort into the small details. So for Rowyn’s birthday I get a little excited and a lot over the top!

Last year for her 1st birthday I was able to do whatever theme/decor I wanted because, well, she was one and didn’t know -nor did she care. So my earthly, blush theme was what I went with. This year was different. Rowyn has been non-stop Frozen for the last 6 months so the theme for this party was blatantly obvious -Elsa everything! So, I scoured pinterest, instagram and DIY YouTube tutorials, did a trip to Party City, a few orders from local shops and Amazon and I was set!

The Cake

I decided to make my own cake ( I am not a baker) as I thought this will be a lot cheaper -and what I didn’t anticipate, A LOT more time consuming! I went with a 2-tiered white cake that I dyed blue, and white buttercream icing. After 3 hours I completed it at 1:00 am the night before and proceeded to almost drop it. To decorate, I melted some white chocolate, mixed in some blue food coloring, layed out some wax paper and used a tablespoon to scoop it onto the sheet and using the spoon gently swipe it across the paper to give it an “ice shard” look. Freeze and decorate to your choosing! So simple and looks so unique!

Decor

I love to decorate for events! I spent the whole year before our wedding hunting down decorations from buy & sell pages, kijiji, and 2nd hand stores and our venue looked AMAZING! So now I find Rowyn’s birthday parties mini versions of this! I decided to create a balloon garland to be the main decorative eye catcher. I’ll put some tips/tricks here I found so helpful, that weren’t in any of the tutorials I found.

Balloon Garland Tricks and Tips

  • Use balloon garland strips instead of fish line. Much easier to fix/adjust later on.

  • Glue dots to add smaller balloons in later.

  • Command hooks to attach the garland to the wall securely without leaving any permanent damage.

Food

We did some Frozen themed food items. I unfortunately didn’t get any pictures of these -it was a busy day. But we had white chocolate covered strawberries -Frozen Hearts, Rice Krispie balls with blue sprinkles -snow balls, blue jello squares -Kristoff’s ice and the cake was Elsa’s castle. Honestly, how did people plan anything before Pinterest?

While all of this was so much fun to plan, the highlight was seeing Rowyn surrounded by all the people who love her most. She is lucky to have so many incredible people in her life and I will forever cherish these wonderful memories.
